Install Windows 10 With a Local Account

You will notice that after the recent Windows 10 update when you restart your computer will ask you to login with your Microsoft Account or create a Microsoft Account. Microsoft is trying to prevent you to create or use a Windows Local Account.

If this screen pops up after a Windows Update, you will have the option to click on cancel and continue with your Local Account, however, when you set up a new computer or a new laptop, you will be faced with the screenshots below that will try to force you to create a Microsoft Account.

I found that the easiest way to get past this and create your Local Account is NOT to connect the new computer to the internet. When it asks you to connect to your Wifi, click on “I don’t have internet” or unplug your ethernet cable.

Here are the steps:

1. When you get to the Let’s connect you to a network screen, select I don’t have internet.
2. On the next screen, click Continue with limited setup.
3. You will then be presented with the screen where you can enter the name of your Windows 10 Local Account.
